THE COLLECTION AND USE OF INFORMATION

We collect the information you provide to us, as well as other information collected automatically.

You or your teacher provides us your “Profile Information”, which includes your email address and full name. We may use your email address to send announcements and information about the Service, to provide technical support and to answer questions you have. Students’ names are used to identify students and to pair them with their corresponding assignment results, as well as their real time class performance.

In an effort to improve the quality of the service, we may automatically collect information relating to Service usage. This information is not personally identifiable and can include your operating system and browser information, the country you are located in, the date and time of your visit, sections and features of the Service that you accessed, your movements in the Service and error logs. We also monitor the traffic to our Service. We may use third party analytics providers, such as Google Analytics, to assist us in collecting various information that improves the Service. This third party is not directly affiliated with Costner and has its own Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. These can be accessed on the third party’s website, www.hotjar.com.

All information collected automatically serves to improve the quality of the Service by identifying trends and tracking use patterns and is considered “non-personal information”. This Privacy Policy does not limit our use and disclosure of non-personal information.

 

SHARING INFORMATION

We will never disclose information on students for the purposes of advertisements targeted at students.

We think it is important that you are able to control your personal data. You have the right to ask us to provide you with, correct or delete personal information about you from our database. In addition, you may request rectification or erasure of personal information as well as the restriction of processing your personal information. PROTECTING INFORMATION

We implement security measures to protect information from unauthorised access. The technology we utilise to keep your information secure includes an Implementation of Application Programming Interface that controls communication between web interface and database are layered with the main security standards. In support of that OAuth2 (e. Open Authorisation) is an open standard that can be customised to your specific needs. This standard has two main objectives, to store authorisation data and control access rights. Teacher’s access to data is therefore limited to their specific students and this access is not transferable.

We work with schools around the world to provide teachers with educational tools. Personal data may be stored in locations outside the country of origin. Wherever this information is stored, it will be subject to strict storage requirements and standards.

Furthermore, all accounts are protected by a password selected by the user. We urge users to keep their account safe by selecting a secure password and not disclosing it to anyone.

All passwords are encrypted in our database.

We do our absolute best to protect user information. Still, no security measures can guarantee that information will not be accessed, altered, destroyed or disclosed by a breach of these measures. By using our Service, you acknowledge that you understand and agree to assume these risks.

 

MARKETPLACE OF LEARNING APPLICATIONS

Third party applications which communicate student progress to the Captain are available in our Marketplace. These applications privately and securely share student progress with teachers on activities the teacher assigned, which are contained within that application. These activities can include but are not limited to, completing a quiz and solving math problems. This information enables teachers to better understand students’ learning progress on assigned activities, and allows teachers to provide more help or assign additional activities based on students’ needs. The students’ progress information shared with teachers depends on the type of data generated by the particular learning application used. This information may include scores, progress made, time spent, percentage correct and whether the student is active or inactive.

It is important to be aware that third party applications may be collecting data about the student. It is the school’s responsibility to ensure compliance with the applicable laws when using these third party applications. Schools should review the privacy policies, terms and practices of third party applications to understand what information they may collect from students, how this information is used and whether parental consent is required. It is the responsibility of schools to seek that parental consent.

In our Marketplace of applications, we require developers to agree to specific guidelines, which purpose is to protect the privacy and security of users. If we become aware of an application, which violates our guidelines, the developer must address the issue or be removed from the Marketplace.

 

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

This Service manages the information of children, some under the age of 13. We urge teachers, parents, legal guardians and other supervising adults to read this Privacy Policy thoroughly, as well as the Privacy Policy of any third parties mentioned. Costner is a processor of information and controllers such as schools or municipalities are responsible for collecting a content from students and parents if applicable.

 

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use at any time. We will post these changes here along with the date of the last change. Changes become effective as soon as they are posted. We advise you regularly check this page to be aware of policy updates.
